    Description: 
    Four terra cotta gargoyles installed in a garden. The gargoyles have pronounced open beaks, large eyes, wings and two claws. Feathers are visible on the body, long neck and wings of the creatures. The gargoyles are glazed light gray and painted white. The gargoyles sit directly on the ground.

    Remarks: 
    The gargoyles are four of ten originally installed on the Villa Augustina roofline. The building was constructed between 1916 and 1918 and was dedicated July 25, 1918. Because of maintenance costs, the gargoyles and crenelated roof of the building were removed in 1956. These four gargoyles were removed to the private residence of Armand Archambault, a relative of one of the nuns at the Villa. In 1993 the gargoyles were given to the historical society by Mr. Archambault's heirs. IAS files contain copy of related correspondence.
