    Description: 
    Captain Mary B. Greene stands with her proper right hand, at waist-level, holding the lever of a pilot's engine control that rests at her proper right front side. In her proper left hand, she holds a folded pilot's cap behind her back. Her hair is loosely pulled into a top-knot. A ruffled blouse with bow tie shows beneath a three-quarter-length loose jacket. She wears a floor-length, full skirt with her proper left shoe showing below the hemline. The sculpture is mounted on a short, square base and faces the Ohio River.

    The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: CAPTAIN MARY B. GREENE/1869-1949/MARY GREENE WAS BORN THE DAUGHTER OF A COUNTRY STOREKEEPER. WHEN SHE/MARRIED CAPTAIN GORDON C. GREENE, SHE LEFT THE LAND TO MAKE HER LIFE AND/RAISE HER FAMILY ON THE RIVERS OF AMERICA. CAPTAIN MARY WAS ONE OF THE FEW/WOMEN TO BECOME A LICENSED BOAT MASTER AND RIVER PILOT./THE EXPLOITS OF MARY GREENE ARE LEGENDARY. SHE STEERED THROUGH A CYCLONE,/SURVIVED AN EXPLOSION OF NITRO GLYCERINE, AND BIRTH TO A SON WHILE HER/BOAT WAS LOCKED IN AN ICE GORGE. AFTER THE DEATH OF HER HUSBAND, IN 1927/CAPTAIN MARY RAN THE 24 PADDLEWHEELERS OF THE/GREENLINE STEAMERS COMPANY, INCLUDING THE DELTA QUEEN.
