    Description: 
    A bronze bas-relief plaque depicting a cavalry soldier preparing to mount his horse, set on front of peaked granite marker. On the rear of the marker is a square State of Pennsylvania seal. The marker is mounted upon a rough-cut, two-block base.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates the involvement of Pennsylvania's 9th "Lochiel" Veteran Cavalry, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Army of the Cumberland at the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War. It was placed by the State of Pennsylvania. SOS! survey lists the founder as Maurice J. Power and the marker media as granite and a report form from Frank Moynihan lists the founder as Gorham Manufacturing Company and the marker media as marble. IAS files contain excerpt from Jack Kerr's "Monuments and Markers of the 29 States Engaged at Chickamauga and Chattanooga," Collegedale, TN: The College Press, n.d.; and a copy of Georgia Historic Resources 1988 form, Historic Preservation Section, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The monument is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures, No. 03143.
