    Description: 
    Full-length figure of Christopher Columbus stands on a pedestal in a landscaped area overlooking the Hudson River. He wears period clothing, including a hat, vest and tunic. He points with his proper right hand and carries a compass in his proper left hand. There is a rope and anchor at his feet.

    Remarks: 
    Erected by the Newburgh Chapter of Unico National at a cost of $100,000. Nearly half of this sum was contributed by donors of $500 or more whose names are inscribed on the monument. The remainder was raised through events sponsored by Unico. The sculpture was commissioned through Pompeian Studios of Bronxville, NY and created at their foundry in Villa Ilice, Carrara, Italy. IAS files contain related articles from the Sentinel and the Times Herald Record (Newburgh, NY) and fund raising material from Unico.
