Erected by the Newburgh Chapter of Unico National at a cost of $100,000. Nearly half of this sum was contributed by donors of $500 or more whose names are inscribed on the monument. The remainder was raised through events sponsored by Unico. The sculpture was commissioned through Pompeian Studios of Bronxville, NY and created at their foundry in Villa Ilice, Carrara, Italy.
