    Remarks:
The $6,000 sculpture was funded through a bequest of James Lane Allen, who was born in Lexington in 1849 and became one of Kentucky's most famous and prolific writers of novels and short stories. Nearby plaque reads: A Fountain/Dedicated to Youth/JAMES LANE ALLEN/1849-1925/THIS GIFT TO THE CHILDREN/OF LEXINGTON IS THE GENEROUS/BEQUEST OF JAMES LANE ALLEN/, DISTINGUISHED KENTUCKY AUTHOR/ERECTED in AD 1933.
The female figure was toppled off her pedestal by vandals in 1969 and the sculpture was again vandalized in 1983. Local sculptor Jack Gron was hired to perform repairs. A spot patch and spot coating were used on female's proper left buttock. IAS files contain related newsclipping from Herald-Leader (Lexington, KY), Oct. 28, 1983, pg. B-1.
