    Description: 
    Three octagonal granite bas-relief medallions adorn the upper facade of a building. "The Building Industry" depicts the head and hand of a worker; the hand is holding a lever. A crane with a dangling hook frames the face of the figure's head. "Conquest of the Land" features a stylized female figure depicted from the waist up. The figure's proper right arm is raised and the hand tucked out of sight behind the head. Below the figure's raised arm is the front of a steam locomotive. "Conquest of the Sea" features a nude half-length female figure. Both of the figure's arms are raised and joined overhead. On the proper left side of the figure is a the front end of a large ship in water.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was commissioned by the architect of the San Francisco Stock Exchange for the construction of the new exchange building in 1929. The sculpture was cleaned in 1992. IAS files contain copy of related excerpt from Charles Hall Page and Associates, "Splendid Survivors: San Francisco Downtown Architectural Heritage", San Francisco: Foundation for San Francisco's Architectural Heritage, 1979, pg. 212.
