    Remarks:
These reliefs were designed for the outdoor staircase which was built when the gymnasium was remodeled in 1935-1936. A plaque below the center panel reads: Christian Petersen/IOWA STATE ATHLETES, 1936/Terra Cotta. IAS files contain copies of excerpts from "Christian Petersen Remembered" and "Christian Petersen, Sculptor," both written by Patricia L. Bliss and published in 1986.
