    Description: 
    The pediment has "...as its central motif a hemisphere encircled by a broad band and supported by two youths, one handing the torch of Enlightenment to the other. At each end of the pediment is a half figure, one a triton with supporting dolphins, the other an aviator with an eagle."

    Remarks: 
    This piece was part of the New Deal Art Program. Goode's book reports this work as being titled, "The Advance of Civilization Through the Bond of World Postal Union," and executed by Adolph Weinman. Goode's book also lists the location as the Department of the Post Office Building. The General Service Administration lists Hancock as the artist; the "Bond of the Postal Union" as the title and the Interstate Commerce Commission as the location of the work. The work was designed by Weinman and exectued by Hancock.
