Description:
A huge muscular stylized figure thrusting upward from the base with an eagle and shield across his chest. He holds a sword across his body with both hands. He has a wreath on his head which symbolizes victory. His robes hang down along his sides and over pylon-like supports which bear the names of those served from the Twenty-Seventh Ward. The figure represents the men and women of the U.S. who offered their strength and sacrificed their lives for the war effort.

Remarks:
The bronze plaques on three sides of the monument base bear the names of the persons who served in the war from the Twenty-seventh Ward. Funded by the Twenty-seventh Ward. Historic photographs and images of models for the finished sculpture are located in the files of the Carnegie-Mellon University Architecture Archives.
