(On front of pillar:) MIA / POW / MEMORIAL (On base of pillar, front:) TO BURN ALWAYS WITH THIS HARD, GEMLIKE FLAME TO GUIDE THEM HOME. BUT THEY MUST REST IN HONOR AMONG OTHER HEROES OF OUR NATION. (On east side:) YOU GIVE BUT LITTLE WHEN YOU GIVE OF YOUR POSSESSIONS. IT IS WHEN YOU GIVE OF YOURSELF THAT YOU TRULY GIVE. AND THERE ARE THOSE WHO HAVE LITTLE AND GIVE IT ALL. (On west side:) OH! CALL MY COMRADES BACK TO ME. I CAN NOT STAND ALONE. THE YEARS COME WITH HOPE AND PRAYER. WHERE HAVE MY COMRADES GON? "BRING THEM HOME." (On south side:) UNLESS JUSTICE BE DONE FOR OUR MIA'S AND POW'S IT WILL NOT BE DONE FOR US.
Description:
An eternal flame constructed with a round black granite pillar topped by a computer generated flame made of sixty-four fiber optic cables that give the appearance of a flickering flame.

Remarks:
This monument was erected by the MIA/POW Memorial Committee of the Joint Veterans Council and is dedicated to soldiers missing in action or held prisoner during times of war. The cost of the monument was $35,000. IAS files contain an information sheet and correspondence from the lighting designer, Steven Rosen of Available Light, Boston, Massachusetts, which describes the computer-driven lighting process. IAS files also contain a copy of an article from the Cape Cod Times, Sept. 13, 1999.
