    Description: 
    A standing portrait of Ambrose Powell Hill dressed in his military uniform and holding his sword in the crook of his proper left arm. In his proper right hand he holds his hat. The sculpture is installed atop a tall square granite base in the center of a traffic circle.

    Remarks: 
    The monument was erected by the Hill Monument Association formed by members of Pegram's battalion in 1887. The monument cost $4,800 and was funded through public subscription. The remains of General Hill were first buried in his Chesterfield County, but were later moved to Hollywood, and were finally placed under his Richmond monument on June 24, 1891. The sculpture was modeled by William Ludlow Shepherd and enlarged in bronze by Caspar Buberl. James Netherwood created the granite base. IAS files contain a newspaper article from the Richmond Dispatch, July 2, 1891.
