Curtis W. Rittenhouse (1862-1936), son of James and Rachel Rittenhouse was born in Plain Township in 1862. In his early life he followed the vocation of farming, like his forefathers. However, he later entered the business field and attained considerable wealth. He married Anna B. Kantzer in 1885; she died in 1909. Having money and time he became a world traveler. He made four round the world tours and many visits to numerous countries. He collected books and family genealogical information. After his death from pneumonia in 1936, and having no children of his own, he bequeathed his large Rittenhouse estate in Blachleyville as a home for orphans. It is known today as the non-profit organization Rittenhouse Memorial Home, Inc.
