Born June 18, 1866 in Berlin, Ohio. He was a prominent lawyer and judge in Wayne County and in Holmes County, Ohio. He served in several federal and state courts.

Hon. Celsus Pomerene (1866-1926) was born in Holmes Co., Ohio and was educated in Hayesville, Wooster University, Princeton college, followed by legal studies at Cincinnati, and finally graduating law school in 1890. At 22 entered law office of Miller & Pomerene in Canton. Then spent 2 years in Cleveland law firm before having to return to Holmes County after the death of his father. In June, 1897, was nominated for Judge of the Common Pleas of the 3rd sub-division of the 6th judicial district, and that fall elected to fill the unexpired term of Judge Dowell. This portrait used to hang in Wayne County Courthouse.
