    Remarks:
David Freedlander was the founder of the Freedlander store in Wooster, Ohio in 1886. He was the father of Herman Freedlander and grandfather of Harold Freedlander.
David Lewis Freedlander (1857-1898), a Polish immigrant lived in Buffalo, N.Y., where he worked as a merchant, selling goods from house to house. When his work took him to Wooster, Ohio he decided to start a business. He moved his family, including seven children to town, and in 1884 opened a 20-foot shop, which he called the Buffalo One-Price Clothing Store. The name reflected the store’s novel way of doing business. In an era when shopping often relied on the barter system, David Freedlander offered all of his goods at a set cash price. In 1898, at age 42, David Freedlander died at sea two days after leaving home for a visit to Poland. His death left his 17-year-old son Herman as the sole proprietor of the blossoming store, and he became the only breadwinner for the six younger children. The store flourished and continued to operate under Freedlander family members until 1989 when it was sold and finally closed its doors in 2009 after 125 years of operation.
