Born 1847 in Holmes County and died Nov. 24, 1896. The son of Thomas and Mary Pfouts Dowell. Married Elizabeth Harrold. Studied law with Lyman R. Critchfield and was admitted to the bar in 1869. In 1874 he was Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney and in 1887 he was Wayne County Judge, Common Pleas Court.

Honorable Edward S. Dowell (1847-1896) was born in Holmes County, Ohio and educated in Wayne County. He was admitted to the bar in 1869 and opened an office in Wooster. Became prosecuting attorney in 1874 and was reelected. In 1887 he was elected judge of the third subdivision of the Sixth Judicial District comprising Coshocton, Holmes, and Wayne counties common pleas court. He died in 1896.
