    Description: 
    The monument consists of a draped obelisk adorned on the front with a relief of a Confederate soldier holding a musket by his proper right side. Above the soldier is a relief of a pair of crossed swords adorned with oak leaves and berries. The Confederate seal, a circular relief of a Confederate soldier riding a horse, appears on the rear of the obelisk. A band around the circular relief is adorned with corn and wheat. The base is comprised of a section of brick blocks on top of three granite steps.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture honors Hancock County soldiers who died during the Civil War. It was first installed without a base, but the Ladies Memorial Association raised funds for a brick and granite base which was installed by Memorial Day 1884. The final cost for the monument was $995.
