The gravestone is adorned with crossed flags and a wreath on the upper front and an inscription on the lower front. On the rear is a relief of a Civil War soldier in uniform, standing with feet together at the heels, apart at the toes. His musket butt is to the right of his proper right foot and both of his hands are on the barrel, proper left over proper right. He wears a long, belted overcoat with a cape that falls to his elbows. He is clean shaven and wears a cap. There are two flag holders on the upper corners of the gravestone. A concrete support that was added around the bottom of the gravestone obscures the last line of the inscription and the base.
