Inscription:  (Proper right side of base:) SMITH GRANITE CO./WESTERLY, R.I. (Front of pedestal, raised lettering:) 10TH WISCONSIN/INFANTRY/1ST BRIGADE, 1ST DIVISION,/14TH CORPS. (Bronze plaque on rear of pedestal: lengthy inscription) unsigned Founder's mark appears. Description:  A uniformed Civil War soldier stands with his proper left arm wrapped around a flag, his proper right hand grasping a sword on his proper left side. He has moustache and wears a cap. There is a tree stump beneath the flag by his proper left leg. The soldier is mounted upon a flat-topped pyramid pedestal decorated with a carved acorn on the front, set on a short, rough-edged base. Oglethorpe, Georgia Remarks:  The monument commemorates the involvement of the 10th Wisconsin Infantry, 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 14th Corps at the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War. It marks the position held by the regiment during the battle. It was placed by the State of Wisconsin.
