(In folds on flag on east side, top of sarcophagus:) FREDERICKSBURG/SWIFT'S CREEK (On north face of base:) BRAVE, JUST, GENEROUS AND/PURE, WITHOUT FEAR AND/WITHOUT REPROACH. (On west face of sarcophagus base:) BORN JAN. 6 1838 - DIED AUG. 6, 1864. (In folds on flag on west side, top of sarcophagus:) DRURY'S BLUFF/COLD HARBOR/SUFFOLK/SOUTH MOUNTAIN/NEW BERNE signed Description:  A sarcophagus supported on a base. Black handles shaped like wreaths, made of brass or bronze, are located on the sides and end of the monument. Military mementos lay across the bier: a coat, flag, hat, belt and sword. Lettering denoting various Civil War battles is carved into the folds of the coat and flag draped across the top. Memorial lettering is carved around the sides and end of the bier.
