Description:
Granite pylon carved with high-relief figure groups on three sides. On the front is a full-length female figure. She wears a long sleeveless dress and sandals. She holds a sheaf of wheat in her proper left arm. On the proper right side of the pylon is a full-length female figure wearing a scarf tied around her head and a long pleated dress. Her arms are folded in front of her. A small semi-nude figure kneels at her feet, facing towards the back of the pylon. The figure of a young girl dressed in overalls stands between the side figure and the front figure on the proper right front corner of the pylon. On the proper left side of the pylon is a full-length female figure wearing a sleeveless long gown. Standing in front of the proper left leg of this figure is a small figure group of a woman holding a child on her lap. Standing next to the proper right leg of the tall figure is a small figure of a female holding a sunflower. The sculpture stands at the front of a building and rests on a granite base.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by the San Francisco Stock Exchange and by the architects of the new Exchange building. The sculpture is one of two flanking the entrance to the Stock Exchange building (see CA001714). SOS! survey reports material is California grey granite; related Stock Exchange publication states material is black granite. IAS files contain copy of related publication "San Francisco Stock Exchange", San Francisco: Committee on Public Relations, the Exchange, 1930.
