    Description: 
    Full-length standing portrait of Senator Strom Thurmond. His proper right hand is extended as if to shake someone's hand. In his proper left hand, he cradles a copy of the U.S. Constitution. He is dressed in a business suit, and his tie has the emblem of South Carolina on it. The sculpture rests on a small bronze plinth, which rests in turn on a red granite block and base.

    Edgefield is the hometown of Strom Thurmond and the monument was erected on election day in 1984. The $23,000 sculpture was commissioned by local citizens.
