A rectangular relief depicting the original Diehl Memorial Fountain featuring a statue of Hebe atop a pedestal adorned with a large fountain basin for horses and a smaller fountain basin for dogs and cats. The relief pictures the original Diehl Memorial Fountain as it appeared when it was installed at Church and Court Streets in Frederick during the early 1900s. In honor of the original Diehl Memorial Fountain, there is a pedal-operated fountain for animals at the base of the relief and two drinking fountains for humans beside the relief.

This memorial fountain honoring Marie Diehl, founder of the Frederick Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, replaces an earlier memorial fountain that once stood at Church and Court Street in Frederick, Maryland. The original memorial was destroyed in November 1947 when it toppled over either from rust or from a car accident. The inscription a nearby plaque reads: DIEHL MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN / The original memorial, unveiled on August 17, 1911, was dedicated to the humane efforts of Marie Diehl (1855-1907), a founder of the Frederick Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, now the Frederick County Humane Society. / The 12-foot tall monument depicted Hebe, the Greek goddess of youth and spring, and featured drinking fountains "for man and beast." In addition to a fountain for people, there was a large basin for horses, and two on the sides for dogs and cats. / The bas-relief here portrays the original memorial where it stood at the corner of Church and Court Streets. And, in the monument's tradition, these fountains are "to furnish refreshing drink" to the citizens of Frederick and their beloved animal friends. / 2007 / Designer and Sculptor / Charles C.
