Description:
A tall Georgia granite obelisk flanked at the base on the right and left sides by two Civil War soldiers of Italian
marble
. The soldier on the right stands before the infantry emblem, two crossed rifles. He is young and clean-shaven. He wears a wide-brimmed hat and basic uniform. He holds a rifle in front of him, butt to the ground. His proper right leg rests against a stump behind him. The soldier on the left stands before two crossed sabers, the cavalry emblem. He wears a mustache and goatee. His proper right hand is extended across his body, pulling his saber out of its sheath. His proper left hand holds the saber near the sheath. A rifle is slung across his back. His proper left leg rests against a tree stump behind him. A bas-relief flag decorates the front of the obelisk; a bas-relief anchor is on the back of the obelisk. The entire memorial is mounted on a stepped base, atop a mound that is enclosed by a circular fence and walkway.
