    Description: 
    An older, uniformed Confederate soldier stands at parade rest atop a tall shaft, with his hands resting on the his rifle barrel. The butt of the rifle rests by his proper left foot. The soldier wears a wide-brimmed hat and appears to be carrying a knapsack or bedroll, or both, with a tree stump behind his proper right leg. The shaft is decorated with a Confederate flag on its south face. Cannonballs were once on each of the lower corners of the shaft. The sculpture is mounted upon a square, graduated base and was once surrounded by a fence.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates Confederate soldiers and was erected by the Statesboro Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, No. 1100. The cost was reported to be either $2,000 or $4,200. The monument was dedicated on either April 26 or 27th, 1909.
