    Full-length portrait of James Whitcomb. He is seen standing, dressed in nineteenth century attire of a long coat to the knees, short double-breasted jacket with open collar, and watch fob hanging below waist. He holds his proper right arm behind his back.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture commemorates James Whitcomb, governor during the war with Mexico. The sculpture is on the west side of a larger Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. The Dec. 1993 SOS! survey reports the Whitcomb statue was recently restored. IAS files contain copy of "Step into the Proud Past, Visitor's Guide, Indiana Soldiers' & Sailors' Monument," State of Indiana, n.d.
