Remarks:
One of four portrait statues on west facade of State Capitol honoring individuals important in Connecticut's history, the post-Revolutionary War era. David Humphreys (1752-1818) was secretary-aide to George Washington, diplomat and one responsible for enlisting the first African-Americans in American armed forces.
The sculpture was cleaned and restored as part of a complete restoration of the State Capitol, completed in 1985.
