    Description: 
    A bear stands upright on its hind legs on a cast iron base adorned with the artist's hand print cast into it. The sculpture has a rich brown patina with a rusty look. The sculpture is mounted on a cement base with brass hand casts of the artist's assistants around the top of it.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was designed and cast by the artist during her residency in the Arts/Industry Program of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center from 1987 to 1988. The bear is part of her series called "The Last Immigrant," which is dedicated to her grandparents who immigrated to the United States. To the artist, the bear symbolizes strength. The sculpture was cast at the Kohler Company foundry by Kohler Company employees who assisted the artist. Those who assisted the artist were Del Dohr, Lyle Butterfield, Orville Schroeder, Roy Skalski and John Tryba. For related reading see "Capsule," Kohler Company, June 2, 1994.
