Description:
A Corythosaurus, an enormous duck-billed dinosaur with rumpled skin on its feet and head, stands on its hind legs. The dinosaur's arms are in a swinging motion, as if it is striding along. The dinosaur is blue-green with a white background and has an orange belly, neck and tail. The dinosaur's headdress stands up behind the tip of its forehead.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by the Sinclair Oil Company for the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair and is one of nine dinosaurs that were fabricated for its Dinoland exhibit at the Fair. The sculpture toured the United States from 1966 through 1968, visiting Independence, Kansas on Sept. 6, 1966. The sculpture was donated to Riverside Park by Atlantic Richfield and arrived in 1970. David Merritt, the grandson of the artist, repainted the sculpture in April 1991. IAS files contain a related information sheet on the sculpture.
Nearby plaque reads: Corythosaurus (Kor-ith-o-sawr-us Helmet Lizard The duckbilled dinosaur lived in North American during the cretaceous time, some 145 million years ago. The most abundant of dinosaurs, He lived in or near water and ate water plants and shellfish. Although he averaged 33 feet in length, he proved to be no match in the fight for survival with the flesh eating dinosaur of the period.
