Description:
Six bas-relief panels on the door to Los Angeles City Hall. Each panel depicts a scene from Los Angeles's history. Their titles are "Finding and Naming the Site, 1769," "Founding, 1781," "American Occupation, 1846," "Public School Founded, 1853," "Opening Aqueduct Headgate, February 13, 1913" and "Placing Last Stone of Breakwater, September 30, 1915."

IAS files contain official minutes from the Municipal Arts Council (1926-1928) related to the commissioning; newspaper articles from Los Angeles Times, dated Jan. 16, 1928, pt. 2, pg. 10 and Jan. 17, 1928, pt. 2, pg. 12; and excerpt from George P. Hales "Los Angeles City Hall," Los Angeles: Board of Public Works, c. 1928, pg. 18-24, which gives detailed description of each door panel. Door was restored ca. 1994.
