Remarks:
The Grotto is staffed by the Order of the Servants of
Mary
. It was founded in 1924 by Servite Friar Ambrose Mayer, who envisioned a place of retreat for experiencing the presence of God in nature. The sculptures were added at later various times. The Peace Garden includes sculptures depicting the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries. Each piece is located along a winding, sloping then rising path, designed to be analagous with the journey from life and death to redemption. The Garden is a gift of Henry J. Casey in memory of his sister, Marguerite M. Casey. IAS files include a pamphlet and brochure drafts from the Grotto.
