Description:
A colonnaded plaza area that contains a gazebo and a long table outfitted with twelve seats and inlaid with six chessboards. All of the pieces are covered with mosaic of pre-cast aggregate.

The title "The Upper Room" refers to the Hindu "chakra" station of psychic energy above one's head. IAS files contain a May 5, 1987 press release from the Battery Park City Authority; and a copy of Battery Park City Art Collection's Technical Information Sheet, which includes information on copyright and maintenance of the piece.
