Remarks:
McKinnon was a Spanish-American war chaplain and a teacher at Santa Clara University. The sculpture was a gift of the Bay Area Spanish-American War veterans and American Legion posts. When originally executed, the sculpture was refused by the donors who had commissioned it and the Park Department would not place it. Fifteen years later the sculpture was retrieved from an Oakland, CA backyard at which time it was treated, changed and placed.
