Remarks:
The sculpture is an exact copy of an original metal sculpture which was damaged by vandals in the early 1980's. (The original sculpture was donated to the town by Ananias Fowler and dedicated on Memorial Day, 1913; with the bronze plaque added in 1961). When the original sculpture was vandalized beyond repair in the early 1980's, the town appropriated $20,000 for a new sculpture and base. Exeter Monument Works were responsible for the bronze replica, which was cast by the Paul
King
Foundry
in Rhode Island. The granite base was made in Vermont. Ailene Marshall, who had helped to unveil the original sculpture also participated in the unveiling ceremony for the replacement sculpture.
