Sculpture depicts scenes and motifs related to the practice of medicine, including laboratory work (upper right), an operating room (upper left), a physician examining the eyes of a patient (center), and a doctor taking a patient's pulse (far left). Isolated motifs arranged between and around the scenes include medication bottles, beakers and flasks, a human heart in cross-section, a bandaged leg and crutches.
