    Description: 
    An obelisk shaft with a trophy on the east face depicting flags, cannon, spears and the seals of Connecticut and the United States. At the top is a stone figure of a soldier standing with his proper right leg slightly bent at the knee and proper right foot forward. He hold a musket is to his proper left, grasped at the barrel with the proper left hand on top. The soldier is dressed in trousers and jacket. An overcoat with cape is draped over his shoulders, falling to knee length, and he wears a soft cap with a visor. He has a mustache and full beard.

    The monument is surrounded by approximately 120 headstones each marked "Civil War" and then listing the soldier, his unit and date of death. The monument was erected for the soldiers who died at Knight Hospital.
