    Description:
Two male soldiers, one African American and one Caucasian, dressed in army fatigues, canvas hats, lace-up combat boots, dog tags, and ammunition belts with equipment pouches and canteens. The soldiers stand next to each other and their poses suggest fatigue and grief over the loss of an unseen companion. The Caucasian figure is stooped with his proper left foot on a tree stump. He holds his rifle with his proper left hand and rests his proper right hand on the shoulder of the African-American soldier standing on his proper right side. The African-American Soldier looks down and holds and ammunition belt and dog tags in his proper left hand. His rifle hangs from his proper right shoulder. The figures stand on a octagonal slab of granite which is supported by vertical slabs of granite. The front vertical slabs contain an inscription and a map of Vietnam and the rear vertical slabs contain the seals of the U.S. military branches and the seal of the United States. The base rests on a poured concrete footer. The piece is surrounded by a circular plaza and four white granite benches.
