MOTT IRON WORKS, NEW YORK (On plaque on front of base:) TO WOMEN OF THE CONFEDERACY,/WHO KEPT INTACT THE HOMES OF THE SOUTH,/WHILE THE MEN OF THE SOUTH WERE FIGHTING HER BATTLES,/AND WHO GAVE TO THEIR SOLDIERS,/THEIR CHILDREN, AND THEIR LAND THE WATER OF LIFE, HOPE AND COURAGE, THIS FOUNTAIN IS ERECTED BY THEIR GRATEFUL DESCENDANTS, THE DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY./Erected by Zollicoffer-Fulton Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy. Dedicated in 1904. unsigned Founder's mark appears. Description:  A standing female figure of painted metal. She wears classical drapery which is long and gathered at the waist. Her head is tilted down and to the proper left and her hair is held by a headband or ribbon. Her proper left leg is bent and her weight is on her proper right leg. The statue and base are painted a pale bluish-green color. The tiered rectangular base has a drinking fountain on either side. Box 32, Fayetteville, Tennessee 37334 Located Fayetteville Courthouse Square, Fayetteville, Tennessee 37334 Remarks:  This sculpture was originally located on the northwest corner of the courthouse square but was moved to its present location when the new courthouse was built. Erected by the Zollicoffer-Fulton Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy.
