    King stands with his proper right foot slightly forward. His proper right arm is bent up to his chest and in his hand he holds a book. He wears a three-piece suit and tie. The surface of the sculpture is scored. The sculpture rests on a three-tiered, square base.

    Kelly Ingram Park is part of the Birmingham Civil Rights District. The creation of the Civil Rights District was managed by Diversified Project Management, Inc. of Birmingham, AL. Edah B. Grover and her firm, Grover Harrison Harrison, as well as Grover E. Mouton, III redesigned the area covered by the Civil Rights District. IAS files contain related articles from Birmingham News (Birmingham, AL), Nov. 15, 1992, and Birmingham News (Birmingham, AL), Sept. 9, 1992 which contains an installation photograph. IAS files also contain 1991 Design Manual for the Birmingham Civil Rights District prepared by Diversified Project Management.
