    A standing portrait of Jerome Wheelock wearing a hat and carrying his coat over his proper left arm. In his proper right hand he holds a cane. The sculpture is installed on a square base.

    Remarks: 
    Jerome Wheelock was born in Grafton and became a noted mechanical engineer and benefactor of the Town of Grafton. Before the age of thirty, Wheelock had invented the steam engine valve system that revolutionized steam transportation. For this and other inventions, he was awarded prized at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia and at the 1878 Paris Exposition. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form C - Monuments questionnaire.
