    Description: 
    Two Civil War flagbearers are depicted in battle. One soldier stands with his proper right leg forward, holding the flag aloft in his proper left hand, with a rifle in his proper right hand. To his proper left side is the other soldier, who kneels on his proper right knee, gripping the staff of the flag with his proper right hand. The sculpture is mounted upon a square base with an upper pedestal, set on a two-stepped, rock-faced lower base. On the lower front of the pedestal is a carved acorn.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates the involvement of the 79th Regiment Veteran Volunteer Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 14th Corps, Colonel Henry A. Hambright commanding, at the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War. It was placed by the State of Pennsylvania and veterans and marks the position held by the regiment during the battle. The cost was $1,500. IAS files contain excerpt from Jack Kerr's "Monuments and Markers of the 29 States Engaged at Chickamauga and Chattanooga," Collegedale, TN: The College Press, n.d., cover pg.; and a copy of Georgia Historic Resources 1988 form, Historic Preservation Section, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The monument is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures, No. 03121 or 03141. IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form.
