Description:
A granite commemorative plaque with a relief depicting two uniformed Civil War soldiers preparing to fire their rifles. One soldier is loading his rifle and the other is kneeling with his rifle held on his proper right side. On the back of the marker is the State of Minnesota seal. The marker has alternating layers of finished and rock-faced granite, and is mounted upon a rock-faced base.

Remarks:
The monument commemorates the involvement of the 2nd Minnesota Veteran Volunteer Infantry in Van Der Veer's Brigade at the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War. It was placed by the veterans and marks the position held by the regiment during the battle. The cost was $5,500. IAS files contain excerpt from Jack Kerr's "Monuments and Markers of the 29 States Engaged at Chickamauga and Chattanooga," Collegedale, TN: The College Press, n.d.; and a copy of Georgia Historic Resources 1988 form, Historic Preservation Section, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The monument is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures, No. 03219.
