Digital Reference:  Medium:  Sculpture: limestone and metal; Base: concrete. Description:  A sundial atop a pedestal decorated with bas-relief carvings of birds, flowers and leaves. The gnomon is in the shape of a bird with extended wings. The entire piece is placed atop a circular base. Subject:  Animal -- Bird Object -- Flower Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Wisconsin -- Hales Corners Sundial Relief Sculpture Owner:  Administered by Milwaukee County, Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, 9480 West Watertown Plank Road, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin 53226 Located Whitnall Park, Boerner Botanical Gardens, 5879 South 92, Annual Garden, Hales Corners, Wisconsin Remarks:  The sundial was created as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project. Evelyn Gebhardt probably did the original clay model; Leo Gauzelli did the actual stone carving. The dial plate is not the original, which was plain and in the shape of a water lily.
