Remarks:
IAS files contain a copy of Waterbury American (Waterbury, CT), Oct. 12, 1984, discussing the dedication of the piece. The sculpture was proposed almost 40 years ago by the late Salvatore Terenzo, a local promoter of Italian heritage. The idea was shelved until 1982, when Dr. Robert Porzio of the Unico Club joined forces with other Italian-American service groups, who privately raised $25,000 to pay for the work. Those attending the dedication ceremony included Waterbury Mayor Edward Bergin and Lt. Gov. Joseph Fauliso.
