Description:
Four bronze relief panels mounted on a granite wall behind a reflecting pool. Each panel is a life-size study of a female back. The panels are arranged chronologically with the oldest executed panel on the left and the newest on the right.

Remarks:
Nearby plaque: " 'Backs'. Henri Matisse. In memory of Anne Burnett Tandy. Loaned by the Anne Burnette and Charles Tandy Foundation. 1984." The sculpture was purchased by the Foundation in 1982 and incorporated into a plan to refurbish Burnett Park. The panels were executed in clay by Matisse between 1909 and 1931; and were cast in bronze between 1955 and 1960. Back I, II and III were cast by Georges
Rudier
