Description:
Standing portrait of Thompson, dressed in his academic robes, holding a scroll in his proper left hand. The sculpture rests in the middle of a flagstone terrace on top of a stone base consisting of a central pedestal flanked by two inscription blocks.

Remarks:
William Oxley Thompson (1855-1933) was president of Ohio State University from 1899-1925. A memorial fund for the sculpture was begun in 1923 and was completed by the class of 1926 ($13,000). IAS files contain photocopies of University records listing the progression of events leading to the finished sculpture. IAS files also contain related articles from The Ohio State University Monthly (June 1930) and The Ohio State Lantern, May 22, 1945.
