    Description: 
    A set of bronze figures in relief mounted on exterior building wall. The central portion of the piece depicts two early Kentucky settlers, a man and a woman, surrounded by the wildlife: bears, foxes, deer, birds, etc. Two young boys in the upper right recline on the branches of a tree and watch passing side-wheelers and fish in the river. Figures of tobacco farmers, horses and farm animals appear in the upper left.

    Fredericks' sculpture was commissioned for the new home of the Courier-Journal and the Louisville Times, designed by Lookwood-Greene Engineers, Inc. IAS files contain related article from Louisville Courier-Journal, April 18, 1948. When installed, the sculpture had a greenish bronze coloring.
