    Description: 
    A tree trunk adorned with military accouterments stands on a rough-hewn pedestal on a tiered, rough-hewn base. A drum sits atop the tree. A crescent Corps insignia appears on the front and back of the base and a State Seal tondo is on the lower front of the base.

    Remarks: 
    Monument is one of 90 honoring New York troops who participated in the Gettysburg campaign. It indicates the position held by the 136th New York Infantry on the afternoon of July 1, 1863 when ordered to cover the retreat of the 1st Corps and support artillery on Cemetery Hill. The sculpture (referred to as MN 285) is listed in the National Park Service List of Classified Structures and is referenced in the Gettysburg National Military Park Archives, vol. 23.
