Inscription:  (On plaque on base, front:) ERECTED BY/THE WOMEN'S RELIEF CORPS/AND THE CITIZENS OF CLINTON/IN MEMORY OF THE SOLDIERS/AND SAILORS WHO FOUGHT/TO PRESERVE THE UNION/1861-1865/FOR THE DEAD A TRIBUTE,/FOR THE LIVING A MEMORY,/FOR POSTERITY AN EMBLEM/OF LOYALTY TO THE FLAG/OF THEIR COUNTRY unsigned Description:  Full-length figure of a uniformed Union soldier stands atop a pedestal and low base. The figure wears a long coat and cap and holds his rifle in front of him with both hands around the barrel and the butt on the ground. There is a relief of the State Seal on the back of the pedestal.
