Remarks:
Hevey 1831-1910, pioneer Catholic priest, served in Quebec until 1871; led French-speaking parish of Sainte-Marie in Manchester from 1882-1909. He built the hospital on whose grounds the monument stands. Following Hevey's death, the monument was erected in his memory by Les Reverendes Soeurs Grises de l'Hopital Notre-Dame de Lourdes. Sculptor Nardini was a close friend of Hevey's. Bronze letters on front of base once spelled P. HEVEY; several now missing, only H and V remain. IAS files include excerpt from David Ruell's "The Public Sculpture of New Hampshire," (Concord, NH: New Hampshire Historical Society), pg. 171-173 and article from "The Union" (Manchester, NH) dated July 5, 1911.
