Remarks:
After a serious town fire in 1894, Luther B. Harris, president of the Lyndonville National Bank, paid for and arranged to have replicas cast of Donatello's Lion of the Republic. The lions were cast in bronze, reportedly from the original mold, at a cost of 1800 lire. They were cast by

under the supervision of Larkin Mead and shipped to America in May of 1905. They were set atop pedestals flanking the bank's entrance. In 1962, when the bank was remodelled, the lions were placed on ground level. See IAS files for photocopied historical photograph showing the lions on their original pedestals.
